Psychotherapist, Midlife Explorer, Trainer and Writer
Meaning and identity have long been central themes in my life. Moving across the globe at a young age left me imprinted with the sense of being different and I had to work out who I was. As a shy, sensitive child I learned to watch and observe in an effort to understand ‘the rules’ and fit in. Little did I know then that this early survival tactic would provide a good foundation for my later work.
As an adult I worked in events and marketing which I loved for its creativity and buzz but the long hours, pressure and expectation that I would promote brands I didn’t believe in told me it wasn’t for me. I was reaching burnout when I decided to follow a quiet but persistent instinct I’d had for years - I retrained as a psychotherapist.
It was a huge commitment and leap of faith which demanded all of my holidays, money and 6 years of my life but worth it. The experience was highly transformative and gave me a model that helped me to make sense of myself, my relationships and the world.
Since qualifying I have maintained a busy private practice with a diverse range of clients, delivered talks and trainings and penned numerous mental health articles. I never stop learning and continue to be moved and inspired by my clients.
Now, in the throes of midlife I am keen to work with other midlife women, sharing what I have learned both personally and professionally so that I can help others to find their own unique meaning and purpose, embrace who they are and live lives that offer greater fulfillment.
In 2008 I qualified with a Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy and I am UKCP Accredited.
I have trained in EMDR (eye movement and desensitisation and reprocessing)therapy, a type of therapy approved of by NICE and the World Health Organisation which is aimed at treating trauma.
For over 15 years I have maintained a busy private practice seeing individuals and couples.
I volunteered for the Adult and Adolescent Bereavement Service, St Joseph’s Hospice Hackney and The Place2be in schools.
